Pacers Sports Initiative located in Kisubi-Wakiso District-Uganda was found by the by students, now alumni  of the University of Kisubi in 2013 with a goal of starting a University Rugby entity for fun and social building. Due to little enrollment of Players from the University community, members agreed to enroll other members from the Kisubi community and beyond. In 2014, 12 youth from St Josephs Technical Institute and 5 Youth of Michelangelo Creative arts institute happily enrolled, followed by over 10 Youth from Nkumba University invaders in 2015; to form one community team Kisubi Pacers Rugby. The team had the first Rugby encounter with St. Marys college Kisubi  in 2015, played aganist Makerere Business School in 2016 a Univeristy side based in Kampala.

The team comprised of youth from all walks of life found a unifying factor in community building that inspired them to formally apply to become members of Uganda Rugby union in 2018. Pending admission to Uganda Rugby union calendar, Pacers organized and hosted invitational University Rugby 7s in 2018 and  2019 .

After Uganda Rugby union inspection of University of Kisubi sports facility and we earned an invitation to Kabaka Coronation Rugby 7s 2019 and Uganda Rugby Cup 2019 against Black Pirates RFC.  The same year Pacers played in the second division league 2019-2020 tagged on Mental Health awareness campaign becoming the only club in the region and division that played for a community cause.

The Rugby season ended prematurely in March 2020 due to Covid 19 pandemic, this too disrupted the momentum as Uganda had the longest lock down in the world. The Pandemic period was tough on families and athletes, with scarcity of food supplies, uncertainty and disruption of routine created anxiety and Mental Health issues. With support from Uganda Rugby Union and Rugby Africa Pacers secured food supplies and masks for all players.

To cope with merging Mental Health issues, Pacers took advantage of social media to run a program called Stay fit and Health during Covid 19 lockdown

The other community concern during lockdown was the increased number of teenage pregnancies and Family violence. So in late 2020, through local leadership we were given permission to started touch rugby activities to give teenagers in the villages purpose, an opportunity to stay on right path until school resumed.

This gave birth to a girls/women’s rugby team; Kisubi Lady Pacers Rugby which to date has inspired local schools like Kitala SS and Boston High school to join the sport. Lady Pacers are champions of Central Region Rugby 7s 2023 and has representation on National team of Uganda in Nabaggala Grace and Kateesa G Junior.

With support from volunteers and kind individuals Pacers uses Sports activities as a vessel to deliver Mental Health Awareness and Education for Community wellness. We believe in Education beyond class room, meaningful Education that is community solution based and in-service to the human race.
